What is an APM board?
What is an APM board?
Ardupilot Mega or “APM” is an open source autopilot system. It allows the user to turn any fixed wing, rotary wing, or multi-rotor vehicle (even boats and cars) into a fully autonomous vehicle, capable of performing a wide range of tasks even programmed GPS missions with waypoints (with the optional GPS module).
What is APM flight controller?
Ardupilot Mega (APM) is a professional quality IMU autopilot that is based on the Arduino Mega platform. This autopilot can control fixed-wing aircraft, multi-rotor helicopters, as well as traditional helicopters.
What is APM in Ardupilot?
APM Planner 2.0 is an open-source ground station application for MAVlink based autopilots including APM and PX4/Pixhawk that can be run on Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux. Configure and calibrate your ArduPilot or PX4 autopilot for autonomous vehicle control.
Is Ardupilot a flight controller?
In 2009 Munoz and Anderson released Ardupilot 1.0 (flight controller software) along with a hardware board it could run on. That same year Munoz, who had built a traditional RC helicopter UAV able to fly autonomously, won the first Sparkfun AVC competition.
What is drone APM?
Powerful Ground Control Software With the addition of a Telemetry Kit, you can track your UAV in real time, or even change your mission while your ArduPilot Mega powered UAV is in the air.
How does telemetry connect to APM?
Overview
- Connect one of the radios to your computer using the micro USB cable.
- Power the radio attached to the vehicle by plugging in the vehicle’s battery.
- Open the Mission Planner and go to the Initial Setup | Optional Hardware | SiK Radio page.
- Select the correct COM port and set the baud rate to 57600.
Does APM 2.8 have internal compass?

What is the difference between PX4 and ArduPilot?
One of the key distinctions between PX4 and ArduPilot is that it operates under the BSD license. Due to this reason, and their inclusion in the Dronecode project, PX4 is getting much more funding for development work than ArduPilot. PX4 is also supported on a large amount of flight control boards.
Can you use a Raspberry Pi as a flight controller?
Rather than use Pixhawk, you can also use a Navio2 controller. The Navio2 is made by a company called Emlid. that developed a Raspberry Pi shield that can turn any normal Raspberry Pi board into a flight controller.
Can ArduPilot run on Arduino?
ArduPilot is a fully programmable autopilot that requires a GPS module and infrared X, Y and Z rangefinders to create a functioning Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Firmware is already loaded, but the autopilot software must be downloaded and loaded onto the board by the user. It can be programmed with the Arduino IDE.
Is the apm2 board still supported for Copter?

Does the APM require a GPS unit with a compass?
APM 2.6 requires a GPS unit with an on board compass for full autonomy. For information on installing a 3DR GPS uBlox LEA-6 with Compass, visit 3DR Power Module. The APM 2.5/2.6 board is shipped in an enclosure with foam protecting the barometric pressure sensor, as shown here.
How do I power the apm2?
Some type of light shield (on top of the foam) will minimize the effects of light changes. The most common way to power the APM2 is to use the 3DR Power Module. Detailed information on powering the APM and providing power to Servos is provided in Powering the APM2.
