What is FreeSurfer?
What is FreeSurfer?
FreeSurfer is a set of software tools for the study of cortical and subcortical anatomy. In the cortical surface stream, the tools construct models of the boundary between white matter and cortical gray matter as well as the pial surface. The surfaces can be inflated and/or flattened for improved visualization.
Is FreeSurfer open source?
FreeSurfer Software Suite An open source software suite for processing and analyzing (human) brain MRI images.
Who developed FreeSurfer?
FreeSurfer is a brain imaging software package originally developed by Bruce Fischl, Anders Dale, Martin Sereno, and Doug Greve. Development and maintenance of FreeSurfer is now the primary responsibility of the Laboratory for Computational Neuroimaging at the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging.
What does recon all do FreeSurfer?
Overview: Reconstructing the Cortical Surface FreeSurfer contains a large suite of programs which can take several hours to process a single subject, and days to process an entire dataset. Recon-all stands for reconstruction, as in reconstructing a two-dimensional cortical surface from a three-dimensional volume.
What does recon-all do?
recon-all : Performs all, or any part of, the FreeSurfer cortical reconstruction process.
How do I import cortical thickness maps into FreeSurfer?
FreeSurfer + Volume atlas + Thickness: Same as above, with the cortical thickness maps imported as source maps. Manual import: You’re prompted for the number of vertices you want in the final cortex surface.
What is the average thickness of the cerebral cortex?
The cerebral cortex of the human brain is highly folded with an average thickness of around 2.5 mm, which varies between 1 and 4.5 mm across different brain regions.1The analysis of cortical thickness (CT) allows for acquisition of valuable in vivoinformation about normal and abnormal neuroanatomy in the healthy and diseased human brain.
What is the default value for the anatomical fiducials?
By default we set this value to 15000 for the entire brain (it means 7500 for each hemisphere). Manual import: The MRI Viewer appears for you to define the anatomical fiducials.
