Goniotaire (for the eyes) is used as an eye lubricant to treat dry irritated eyes.
What is povidone used for in eye drops?
Povidone and tetrahydrozoline ophthalmic (for the eyes) is used to relieve eye redness or dryness caused by minor eye irritations, and to protect the eyes from further irritation. Povidone and tetrahydrozoline ophthalmic may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

The tissues taking in iodine are the RPE and choroid in particular. Animal studies have reported that a dose of 20-30 mg/kg is toxic for the retina. Several studies have used iodate to induce damage to photoreceptor cells and the RPE.
