What is the meaning of VSync?

What is the meaning of VSync?

Short for vertical sync, VSync is the graphics technology responsible for synchronizing the frame rate of a game to the refresh rate of a monitor. This happens most frequently with games that utilize refresh rates of 60 frames per second (fps) or more.

Does disabling VSync increase FPS?

It does not increase the FPS, but it does make it smoother. But if your FPS is higher than the refresh rate of your monitor, then VSync will put a cap on it. If the refresh is a multiple of the frame rate, exactly nothing happens.

Is VSync bad for GPU?

Turning on Vsync will push the card to try to produce 60 frames (which it cannot) will significantly drop its efficiency and performance. So… it wont damage your gpu but, it will increase/decrease the performance/efficiency/powerconsumption/framerate depending on the situation.

Should you turn on VSync for gaming?

You should be fine running it with gsync only, there’s should be no tearing if you stay below your refresh rate. If you notice any issues in this regard, you can always turn the vsync on.

Does VSync limit FPS?

Vsync limits your framerate to your monitor, making it more stable. If you want more FPS leave it off always, if you want to stable leave it on.

How much latency does VSync add?

A quick visual analysis shows that enabling VSync in fullscreen without locking the frame rate has the most input latency, as much as 7.5 frames. Disabling VSync in fullscreen without locking the frame rate has the least input latency, with only 1.333 frames of latency.

Does FreeSync + enhanced sync + FRTC work?

I enabled Freesync + Enhanced Sync + FRTC at 74FPS and it worked perfectly with zero input lag, good FPS range and no tearing (with FRTC at 75FPS I had tearing) It works but maybe there’s a better way to do this 🙂

What is vsync and how does it work?

Techopedia explains Vertical Sync (Vsync) Vertical sync synchronizes the output video of the graphics card to the refresh rate of the monitor. This can be good when applied to applications that have frame rates significantly higher than the monitor’s refresh rate as this relieves tearing of the image and results in smooth playback.

Does FRTC add input lag?

FRTC adds input lag. I’ve tested it and AMD Robert seems to confirm this. The best way for consistent FreeSync without added input lag is to cap your frame rate to 2 below refresh (e.g. cap to 73 FPS if refresh rate is 75 Hz) and enable vsync ingame.

What does the vertical sync option do?

This option prevents the video card from changing the display memory until the monitor is done with its current refresh cycle. When vertical sync is applied, the rendering engine would match the maximum refresh rate of the monitor if the frame rate being produced is higher than the refresh rate of the monitor.
