Asherman syndrome is a rare, acquired condition of the uterus. In women with this condition, scar tissue or adhesions form in the uterus due to some form of trauma. In severe cases, the entire front and back walls of the uterus can fuse together. In milder cases, the adhesions can appear in smaller areas of the uterus.
What are common uterus problems?
Some common uterine problems include uterine fibroids, endometriosis, uterine prolapse and uterine tuberculosis.
What does Asherman’s syndrome feel like?
The most common symptom of Asherman syndrome is few or no periods. You may also feel pain when your period should be due but won’t have any bleeding. This could be a sign that you’re on your period but blood can’t leave your uterus because of the blockage.
What are the symptoms of abnormal uterus?
Symptoms of uterine anomalies
- Never having had a period.
- Recurrent miscarriages or infertility.
- Preterm labor or abnormal positioning of the baby during pregnancy or labor.
- Pain when inserting a tampon.

Is Asherman’s syndrome curable?
Asherman syndrome can often be cured with surgery. Sometimes more than one procedure will be necessary. Women who are infertile because of Asherman syndrome may be able to have a baby after treatment. Successful pregnancy depends on the severity of Asherman syndrome and the difficulty of the treatment.
How do you know if you have Asherman’s?
Asherman’s syndrome is usually diagnosed through imaging the size and shape of the uterus. The gold standard for diagnosis is a scope and camera tool called a hysteroscope that is inserted into the uterus to display a real-time view of the uterine cavity.

A D&C, or dilation and curettage, is a procedure to remove tissue from your uterus. You may need a D&C procedure if you had a miscarriage or abortion. Your healthcare provider can use a D&C and hysteroscopy to diagnose unexplained bleeding. A D&C is an outpatient procedure.

The odds of pregnancy after a miscarriage appear to be similarly positive if you’ve had a D&C. Nearly 90 percent of women who had undergone a D&C procedure were pregnant within a year of starting to try again, one study found.

- Limit high-sodium processed and packaged foods.
- Check your blood pressure daily with a home monitor.
- Exercise regularly.
- Lose weight, especially around the waist.
- Avoid or limit alcohol.
- Increase potassium by eating a majority of plants at each meal.
