What is volt per octave?
What is volt per octave?
Volts per octave was popularized by Bob Moog in the 1960s, and was widely adopted for control interfacing. One volt represents one octave, so the pitch produced by a voltage of 3 V is one octave lower than that produced by a voltage of 4 V. Each 1 V octave is divided linearly into 12 semi-tones.
What voltage is middle C?
Rel Output Generates a short 10V pulse when the last note is released from a MIDI keyboard. Gate Output High output (10V) when at least one note is pressed on a MIDI keyboard. Note Output Voltage that represents the last MIDI note played. 0V is middle C (MIDI 60).
What is 1V Oct?
Eurorack uses a standard of 1 volt per octave (1V/OCT) to set the pitch of oscillators in order to generate musical notes. This means that the 12 notes of a scale are divided between the range of zero to one volt, and jumping from 1V to 2V will step up by an octave. For example, the Korg MS20 uses a Hz/V format.
Is control voltage AC or DC?
A typical control system uses 24 V ac for panel and field I/O devices. This system would also use 24 V dc for analog instrumentation. And, alternately, 24 V dc could be used for panel, field I/O and analog devices.
What is CV Eurorack?
CV, or control voltage, is the heart and soul of Eurorack.
Is middle C C3 or C4?
We will follow the International Standards Organization (ISO) system for register designations. In that system, middle C (the first ledger line above the bass staff or the first ledger line below the treble staff) is C4. An octave higher than middle C is C5, and an octave lower than middle C is C3.
What Hz is D?
When calculated in equal temperament with a reference of A above middle C as 440 Hz, the frequency of middle D (D4) is approximately 293.665 Hz.
Why is 24V used in control circuits?
Typically, control devices are large and operate on the same voltage used to power the motors. By using 24V DC as a control voltage, manufacturers can increase reliability. One reason for this is that these power supplies operate with limiting circuits to protect against short circuits.

What is gate in Eurorack?
A signal which conventionally represents the pressing and releasing of a key on a keyboard, or some other on/off state, and is most commonly used to activate an envelope generator. Conventionally, a gate signal has two states. When no keys are pressed on the keyboard, the gate is in the low or inactive state.
