Although its name suggests it has a smaller diesel engine than the 320d, in fact it’s the same 2.0-litre turbodiesel unit, detuned to offer better fuel economy, lower emissions and therefore cheaper company car tax bills. Compared to the 320d, the 318d has slightly better fuel economy – 50.4mpg versus 49.6.

both quite similiar, had these for company cars lots of motorway miles, the 320d has a bite more bite to it, however if you want m sport package etc perhaps 318d is better value

Really liking the 318/320d M Sport models of the new 3 series. Thinking come summer time I may get shot of the Golf and treat myself to a finance agreement. I can answer your question, but only if the engine is fitted to a 1er. The 118d has a more progressive boost setup, due to the smaller turbocharger.
