As of the 2010 census, Pike Township had a population of 77,895 living in an area of approximately 107 km² (41.5 mi²). Pike Township was named for Zebulon Pike. The Metropolitan School District of Pike Township nearly covers the township, but a small area in the south is within the Indianapolis Public Schools system.
When was Pike founded?
Pike Township was erected as its own unit of government in 1812. A portion of Rockland Township was added to Pike in 1842. The township was so named because in its streams in the colonial days the Pike fish was so plentiful.
