The land is in Corsley parish and is owned by the National Trust. A 26.6-hectare (66-acre) area of chalk grassland at Cley Hill was notified as a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1975. The land is managed by the National Trust, having been donated to the charity in 1954 by the 6th Marquess of Bath.
Why is it called Cley Hill?
The Devil was so discouraged by the tale that he abandoned his journey and simply dumped the pile of earth beside the road. The town of Devizes was saved, and Devil’s pile of earth became Cley Hill.
How Long does it take to walk up Cley Hill?
We came here in the early evening during Spring, and a brisk 30 minute walk took in most of the site and allowed for some time at the top absorb the views. Apparently it is a UFO hot spot so coming up here at dusk might reward you with a view of something more mysterious than the historic landscape this hill sits in.

It was formed by ancient seas and it’s been shaped by man since its prehistoric role of guarding territorial boundaries, through to more recent farming and quarrying.
What are the views of Little Cley Hill?
The views are fabulous, especially northeast to the striking outline of Little Cley Hill, a conical hill looking like a castle mound, and further away is Warminster. Cley Hill was originally part of the Longleat estate but was given by the 6th Marquis of Bath to the National Trust.

How do I get to Cley Hill National Trust?
Park at the Cley Hill National Trust car park, signposted from the A362 and leave via the gap next to the large wooden gate. Follow the stony track as it bends round to the right and then left. At the end of the track go up the steps and through the kissing gate with a Cley Hill National Trust sign.
