The Fred Whitton Challenge consists of a 113 mile sportive around the Lake District, now a World Heritage Site. Starting at Grasmere and taking in climbs of Kirkstone, Honister, Newlands, Whinlatter, Hardknott, Wrynose and Blea Tarn passes.

The very best riders finish in just under six hours but many riders take eleven hours or longer. Entry for the Fred Whitton is typically through a ballot which opens in early January.

The entry fee is £70 plus a small fixed transaction charge. All successful places will be notified via email after the 23/01/22. For the lottery entry, we will favour first-time riders in the event, by reserving a number of places for people who haven’t ridden our event before.

You can start at any time between 6am and 8am. But be warned that there’s a cut-off time of 11.30am at the Braithwaite checkpoint (at 60 miles) and 14:30 at Calder Bridge; and over Kirkstone, Honister and Newlands passes and quite a few less well known (but still very hard) climbs.
