Self-adhesive vinyl sheet was introduced to the UK market in the 1960s under the brand name Fablon. It was extensively used in DIY at the time, and notably featured in children’s DIY projects on the British TV show Blue Peter, but always under the generic name “sticky-backed plastic.”
Can sticky back plastic be used outside?
Sticky back plastic is ideal for giving the furniture in your home a new lease of life. If your kitchen cabinet doors need replacing, save yourself a heap of money by using sticky back plastic. Not only is it water resistant and heat resistant (up to 75 °C/167 F), it can also be used outdoors.
Is DC fix vinyl waterproof?
The d-c-fix sheet is secured with a sticky back plastic, which is heat resistant to 75°C, waterproof and can easily be wiped clean. Trim any excess film with a knife or use d-c- fix’s application kit for a flawless finish.
How do you get bubbles out of sticky back plastic?
Stubborn bubbles can be removed using a hairdryer as the adhesive on the decal will soften upon heating. Apply heat to the decal for a minute by switching on and aiming the hairdryer towards it. Iron out the bubbles toward the sides of the decal to eliminate them.
Is Fablon fire resistant?
How heat-resistant are the Fablon materials? The sheet can withstand temperature of up to 80°C for short periods of time. We do not recommend direct contact with hot pots, pans or dishes.
Can you use sticky back plastic on tiles?
Yes they can be used for the splash back or walls in the bathroom and are humidity and water resistant. Let the tiles bond 48h with the surface before exposing them to humidity and water. They are not recommended in the shower.
Can I wrap my kitchen worktops?
Can this be wrapped? Yes most worktops can be wrapped – we would advise on the material best to use and the care required to ensure longevity but it is really common sense.
