Do I need SCVMM?
No need for anything more until you get a bit bigger. I have 4 hosts in my cluster, over 100 VMs, and very rarely use SCVMM. I pretty much only use it to put a host into maintenance mode so that SCVMM will move all of my VMs for me to other hosts.
