Can I use a 9 speed chain on a 10 speed crank?
Can I use a 9 speed chain on a 10 speed crank?
10 speed cranks with the rest 9 speed is absolutely fine. But as I said in another thread leave the front mech at the same height it was set at for the 9 speed rings (22-32-44) and don’t be tempted to lower it down for the 42T outer (if going for a 3 ring set up).
Will a 9 speed chain work on a 10 speed cassette?
In some cases, a 9-speed chain may work just fine with a 10-speed cassette. In general, however, running a chain designed for fewer speeds than the cassette is not considered a good practice. The 9-speed chain is wider and can rub and skip when combined with a 10-speed cassette.
Are Shimano 9 and 10 speed chainrings interchangeable?
9 and 10 speed chains are the same internal width, so single chainrings are totally interchangable.
Is a 9 speed and 10 speed chain the same?
The main difference between a 9 speed chain and a 10 speed chain is that the 10 speed chain is thinner in width, because of the 10 speed cassette, which in turn means the chain is lighter.
Can I use an 11 speed crank on a 9 speed bike?
A 11 speed chain should work okay on 9 speed chainrings.
Are 9 and 10 speed cassettes the same width?
For the Shimano brand, their 9-speed cassettes have an extra cog added to the 8-speed cassette, while the overall width remains the same. The same thing goes for the 10-speed where it still has the same width as an 8-speed cassette. This makes the 10-speed slightly narrower.
Can I use a 10 speed cassette with a 9 speed derailleur?
A 9-speed Shimano derailleur will work on a 10-speed cassette if the shifter is also made by Shimano and designed for road bikes. It’s also possible to combine a new 9-speed derailleur by Campagnolo with a 10-speed shifter and cassette made by Campagnolo.
Can I use 10 speed chain on 11 speed cassette?
Chain width is 5.62 mm. Since 10 and 11 speed chains are almost the same width, as well as cassette teeth, 10 speed chain can be used in stead of 11 speed one, without it jamming between the sprockets.
Can I use 10 speed chain on 8-speed cassette?
A 10 speed chain should work on an 8-speed drivetrain. if you want 10 speeds, you will need a 10 speed-specific chain, cassette, derailleur and shifter (and a new cable while you’re at it).
Can I use an 11 speed chain on a 10 speed cassette?
Condensed Answer: An 11-speed chain is narrower than a 10-speed chain and can therefore be combined with a 10-speed cassette.
Will a 9 speed chain work on a 12 speed chainring?
A 9 speed chain is very unlikely to run well with a 12 speed chainring I’d have thought. The chain size is completely different – I think 9 speed runs a wider chain than 11/12 speed.
