There’s also a new 48-volt mild hybrid system for the 540i that slightly improves fuel efficiency and smooths out the operation of the engine’s stop-start system at stoplights.

For this facelift, BMW augmented its familiar 3.0-liter B58 single-turbo six with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and placed a starter-generator motor between the engine and transmission.
