What class are Adcom amplifiers?
What class are Adcom amplifiers?
Class C
It has remained a Class C recommended component. Though not constructed to Mark Levinson standards (none of the amps in this survey are), it is nonetheless an attractive, user-friendly piece of gear. It is a direct-coupled, high-power, high-current design with class-A bias for the input stage.

Is the gfa-5500 a good amplifier?
Sound stage and upper registry could be more detailed , but never harsh . The GFA – 5500 is a 200 watt per channel version of the larger 5802 power amplifier. Both are based on a Nelson Pass 3 stage amplifier design that leverage MosFet (HexFet) outputs. These amplifiers are excellent.
Is the ADCOM ADCOM 5500 a good amplifier?
Being voltage-driven devices (like valves), MOSFETS tend to be more tube-sounding and the 5500 exemplifies this. Bias (like other Adcom amplifiers) is toward class A, so it runs warm but not overly so. They won’t heat the room like my old Krell monoblocks. But it’s also smoother sounding and less transistor sounding than my Krells.
Is the ADCOM gfa-5200 a good AMP?
The Adcom has whatever magic it is that makes for a very solid, realistic image (maybe close tolerance, channel-to-channel matching independent of frequency?) The amp is extremely quiet, runs fairy cool, looks great (as far as the big-black-box school of design goes) and pairs nicely with the Adcom GFA-5200 biamping my center channel.
Why does the GFA 5500 produce a lot of heat?
These amps produce a lot of heat because of their bias running partially class A. The GFA – 5500 is a 200 watt per channel version of the larger 5802 power amplifier. Both are based on a Nelson Pass 3 stage amplifier design that leverage MosFet (HexFet) outputs.
