ACO participation has dropped to 477 in the Medicare Shared Savings Program in 2021, the lowest number since 2016. In 2016, CMS recorded 433 ACOs in the Shared Savings Program. ACO participation increased to a program high of 561 ACOs in 2018, but has declined since with 487 ACOs in 2019 and 517 ACOs in 2020.
